Released in Sep 2017 and continued to be offered by Apple until the identically shaped iPhone SE Gen 2 was launched in 2020, the iPhone 8 was a bigger seller than that of its' successor the iPhone X. Why, because there was no increase in processing power for the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 has the tactile home button and Touch ID which many people prefer!

What’s to like about the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus:

  • The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both include the A11 Bionic Processor (the same as the iPhone X).

  • The 12Mp camera is solid and easy to use so you will get really decent HD photos & 4K videos capability. Plus 7MP FaceTime HD camera for video calls.

  • The iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus were the first iPhones to introduce wireless charging.

  • The display is a 4.7-inch Retina HD (5.5” for iPhone 8 Plus), and has True Tone display, calibrating the screen to best suit the lighting conditions you're in, all great for watching videos.

  • The battery will get you through a whole day of normal use (if you're not a super heavy user).

Importantly, Apple is still providing iOS updates for iPhone 6s (iOS 15) and above so there should be plenty of support life for the iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus. Major updates get launched mid-late each year.

Things to Consider

The main thing to look out for when purchasing an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus is the battery. Go with a Seller that provides a minimum capacity battery of 80% useful life and the device comes with a 12-month warranty. Once you have the device, you can always get the battery replaced if it does wane, which is not that expensive but gives improved life and less of need to find a charger (wireless or wired).

All in all, a refurbished iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus does everything you're going to need a smartphone to do (making calls, sending messages and emails, using social media, surfing the web, make purchases and grabbing some pictures or video). It might be a little slower than its’ successors but most people will be unable to notice the speed difference, unless you do a side by side comparison!

The great thing is that you are able to get the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus at a fraction of the cost of new phone. Even better is that your purchase of a refurbished device is going to be beneficial for the environment.
